9/11 Day of Service 2023

The Virginia Service Foundation is now accepting applications for the 9/11 Day of Service 2023 mini grant program! These awards are available for public or private organizations hosting service projects to engage communities in service. To honor the spirit of sacrifice made on 9/11/2001 and the sacrifices that continue to be made by members of the armed forces, first responders, and their families, we come together in service across communities and in partnership with faith-based, local, and national organizations to make a difference.

Mini grants are available to eligible organizations for up to $250. Applications must be submitted by July 19th at midnight. Preferred submission is through the online form available here, but PDF forms for manual entry are available upon request.

Eligibility

Applicants must represent public or private nonprofit organizations that serve the Commonwealth of Virginia. This includes faith-based and other community organizations, public or private schools, institutions of higher education and government entities. The funding will be provided on a reimbursement basis to the applying organization after the reimbursement request is received by the Virginia Service Foundation.

Service Project Guidelines

On the September 11 National Day of Service and Remembrance, we invite you to cross divides, differences, and ideologies to come together in service to lift each other up, neighborhood by neighborhood, just as Americans did more than 20 years ago, united to serve.

You can help us spark a passion and create relationships between communities and individuals that extend past this day to inspire a lifetime of service in all Americans.  Service projects must engage volunteers but are not required to focus on a specific topic area. Applicants are encouraged to consider the connection between their project and the service of first responders, military, and their families, however, there is no requirement for projects to add this if it is not already an element of the planned project.
