The Carroll County Public Schools Lift Up AmeriCorps program was on full display at the Floyd County community’s annual holiday parade on November 26th. Community members got a chance to see the AmeriCorps members serving in their community schools during the event. Members waved from a float adorned with a giant AmeriCorps banner, signs, and members wearing their AmeriCorps gear. AmeriCorps members also walked beside the float and handed out candy to children along the way. This was a fantastic opportunity for this program to get the AmeriCorps name out into the community and make individuals aware of the impact members are having in area schools. AmeriCorps members with this program serve as tutors for at-risk students in reading and/or math in Pre-K through 12th grade in nine schools in Carroll County and five schools in Floyd County.
