Thanks for making this an AmeriCorps Week to remember! We've been thrilled to see AmeriCorps members and alumni, AmeriCorps Seniors volunteers, program staff, and community members join us in celebrating the individuals and programs that address critical community needs across Virginia through national service.
As part of this, we also appreciate the AmeriCorps alumni and their family members who joined us for our in-person AmeriCorps Alumni Group Volunteer Project. This past Wednesday, twelve volunteers gathered at the Community Foundation for a greater Richmond to pack breakfast bags for Housing Families First, a nonprofit housing shelter in the Richmond area. These breakfast bags make mornings easier at the shelter since the staff can hand them out to residents instead of spending time preparing meals.
Many hands made the work go fast and we packed a total of 55 breakfast bags! Everyone also spent some time to sharing their backgrounds and experiences with AmeriCorps. It was a great chance for AmeriCorps alumni to connect with each other, come together to support the needs of the Richmond community, and celebrate AmeriCorps Week. Special thanks to the Virginia Service Foundation for providing funding to cover the food items we packed and to Serve Virginia Program Development Officer Alex Vanik, who organized the event!
