When STOP, Inc.'s Vice President Michelle Bryant attended the Virginia Volunteerism and Service Conference in 2014, the birth of a great idea was born. At the conference, a representative with Google told Michelle about a special initiative the company was implementing to address the lack of representation of African-American males in the field of computer programming. She knew her organization could potentially play an instrumental role in addressing this need and, after just a few months, the first ever STOP Technology Bus was born! The bus will travel to each of the organization's jurisdictions to meet with students of all ages for hour-long sessions administered by volunteer mentors. Students will be introduced to all facets of information technology, including computer programming, maintenance and repair. STOP's goal is to foster an increase in high school and college graduation among its target population to ultimately impact the deficit of African-Americans in the career path of computer programming.
