The Carroll County Lift Up AmeriCorps Tutoring Program partnered with the CAVS after-school remediation program for 60 plus students to sponsor an after-school event that showcased exercise, nutrition, and other healthy habits. Nine recruited volunteers provided sessions on strength-building exercises, Taekwondo, and refit movement to music. The event also featured dental health activities with giveaways  sponsored by the In Total Health organization out of Roanoke. Healthy nutrition was highlighted by a make-your-own-smoothie station, and a serving of healthy pizza with veggies, low fat cheese, chicken and whole wheat crust.​ The Carroll County Public Schools - LIFT UP AmeriCorps program places tutors of reading and math in 9 schools in Carroll County and 5 schools in Floyd County serving grades K-12.
