Since 1974, National Volunteer Week has been an opportunity to recognize the impact of volunteer service and the power of volunteers to tackle society’s greatest challenges, to build stronger communities, and to transform the world. This celebration takes place every April during Global Volunteer Month and will be recognized April 20–26, 2025.
Save the dates and start making plans for how you'll celebrate in your community! Here are some ideas to get you started:
- Sign up to volunteer with your favorite community organization in April or connect with your local Volunteer Center to discover new ways to get involved in your community.
- Share the impact of volunteerism in your community and across Virginia! Follow Serve Virginia on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and X to explore and re-share Stories of Service from volunteers as well as Service Spotlights on organizations and groups making a difference.
- Take our Volunteer Personality Quiz to discover your best match for new volunteer opportunities. Then, share the quiz with a friend and share your results on social media using the hashtags #VirginiaIsForVolunteers, #NationalVolunteerWeek, and #VolunteerToday.
- Subscribe to the Virginia is for Volunteers newsletter. This quarterly newsletter offers resources, training opportunities, award nominations, and inspiring stories for individual volunteers of all ages.
- Make plans to nominate a person, organization, or business you know for the 2025 Governor’s Volunteerism & Community Service Awards! Nominations will open on May 14 at the 2025 Virginia Volunteerism Summit.
- Purchase tickets to attend the Virginia Volunteerism Summit, taking place virtually May 14-15, to learn more about the service and volunteerism sector in Virginia and get inspired to become more involved. Plus, findings from the 2025 VCEI survey will be shared at the Summit!
- Write a letter to the editor or op-ed about what volunteerism means to you and how volunteers positively impact your community.
- Explore additional resources from Points of Light, including templates to help you celebrate National Volunteer Week.
