Last week, Serve Virginia staff and members of the
Governor's Advisory Board on Service and Volunteerism had the pleasure of joining
Senator Stella Pekarsky,
Delegate Irene Shin,
Volunteer Fairfax Executive Director Jennifer Williamson and
Senior Director of Programs and Operations Mayjean Deem van der Werf, and
RSVP Northern Virginia Program Manager Stacey Iden for a site visit to check in with
RSVP Northern Virginia at
Volunteer Fairfax and discuss the impact of the program and its leadership.
They joined more than 20 RSVP volunteers who took part in the Welcome Wednesday group service project event,
helping pack 400 Hygiene Kits and 300 Kids Kits for Cornerstones' Embry Rucker Community Shelter, a 70-bed residential shelter that provides healthy, safe, emergency housing for individuals and families in Reston, Virginia.
RSVP Northern Virginia is part of AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP (Retired & Senior Volunteer Program), which focuses on making public service a central part of the American experience. They connect volunteers age 55 and better to non-profits across the community, serving as a gathering place for older adults to socialize, participate in group service projects, and work toward the common goal of making Northern Virginia stronger, more resilient, and empowered.
