This fall, Carroll County Public Schools Lift Up AmeriCorps members have been busy with several exciting interactive activities for their students. In October, 27 AmeriCorps members partnered with the ESL staff of Carroll County Public Schools to host the annual Multi-Cultural Festival attended by more than 200 students and their families. Members hosted seven game and activity stations around the gym for students representing the culture of different countries.  After the games, students and their families enjoyed a buffet of dishes from around the world in the cafeteria.  Members also joined the New River State Park rangers and staff during for the annual Pumpkin Festival at Foster Falls.  AmeriCorps members and volunteers helped create a pumpkin patch,  assisted at the pumpkin carving station, and served at the Discovery Center where the children were allowed to decorate plaster animal tracks and look at a display of animal furs.  Members also assisted passengers on the hayrides and tractor ride.  On October 25th, 24 members in the seven elementary schools participated in Read for the Record Day by joining other schools across the country to read the book,  Maybe Something Beautiful, by F. Isabel Campoy and‎ Theresa Howell, and illustrated by Rafael López.  Each school team of AmeriCorps members planned activities to go along with the book.  See more photos from these events.
