The Virginia Office on Volunteerism and Community Services (OVCS) is pleased to announce the availability of grant funding under the 2017-2018 AmeriCorps formula funding cycle. View information about this funding opportunity now. Applications for funding are due by 11:59 p.m., February 1, 2017.
Since the program's founding in 1994, 1 million AmeriCorps membershave contributed more than 1.4 billion hours in service across America while tackling pressing problems and mobilizing millions of volunteers for the organizations they serve. With funding from the Corporation for National and Community Service administered by OVCS, members dedicate a year of their life to intensive community service in exchange for a small living stipend and an education award.
AmeriCorps programs address critical community needs in key focus areas including education, disaster services, economic opportunity, environmental stewardship, healthy futures, and veterans and military families. Sample activities include tutoring and mentoring youth, response to local disasters, restoring natural habitats, and job training/placement. AmeriCorps members also mobilize community volunteers and strengthen the capacity of the organizations where they serve.
