The nation's mayors and county officials are increasingly turning to national service as a cost-effective strategy to address local challenges.
To spotlight the impact of national service and thank those who serve, mayors and country officials will participate in the fifth-annual Mayor and County Recognition Day for National Service on April 4th. On this day, officials will hold public events and use traditional and social media to highlight the value of national service to the nation's cities and counties. The following regional events are being planned:
Central Virginia
Mayors and county leaders will honor national service members at a celebration event at 9 a.m., at the Eastern Henrico Recreation Center, 1440 N. Laburnum Ave., Richmond, VA 23223. Following the ceremony, members and volunteers will participate in a large-scale service project at historic Evergreen Cemetery, 50 Evergreen Road, Richmond, VA 23223.
