Organizations all over Virginia celebrated AmeriCorps and AmeriCorps Seniors members and volunteers March 13-19, for AmeriCorps Week. Each year, AmeriCorps Week is a chance to thank members and volunteers for their service and share stories from their service experiences. Governor Youngkin designated the week as the AmeriCorps Week in Virginia by issuing a special proclamation.
This year, AmeriCorps Seniors Director Atalaya Sergi paid a visit to Richmond area programs to spend time getting to know the members and participate in a special volunteerism and service roundtable discussion with area volunteer leaders. Atalaya visited AmeriCorps Seniors Foster Grandparents serving at Trinity Life Center in Richmond and AmeriCorps members with Enrichmond Foundation and the Virginia Department of Recreation and Conservation at Evergreen Cemetery. The AmeriCorps Seniors and members took part in a service project clearing a pathway at the historic African-American cemetery. Atalaya was welcomed by Virginia Delegate Delores McQuinn and former Delegate Viola Baskerville.
Dan River Year AmeriCorps in Danville showcased their members throughout the week highlighted in a special video posted on Instagram. Other programs shared stories on social media as well and took a moment to celebrate their members throughout the week. View photos from the Richmond visits and social media stories on our Flickr.
