The Summer 2024 Serve Virginia Honor Roll was announced today, celebrating the exceptional volunteer efforts and community service of 420 individuals and groups of volunteers throughout the Commonwealth.
Twice a year, the Serve Virginia Honor Roll celebrates the valuable contributions of volunteers in Virginia. Volunteers included on the Honor Roll are serving throughout the state and their ability to help meet needs in communities is often enabled by a strong system of supporting organizations. The Summer 2024 Serve Virginia Honor Roll includes volunteers who were submitted for recognition by Volunteer Centers, such as Volunteer Hampton Roads, Hanover County Department of Community Resources, Loudoun Cares, and Volunteer Alexandria, as well as institutions of higher education, such as William & Mary, Randolph-Macon College, Christopher Newport University, and the University of Richmond. In recognition of the service provided by more than 1.8 million Virginians each year, the Serve Virginia Honor Roll spotlights the volunteers who serve their communities in a variety of ways, promoting quality of life and creating a lasting impact for others. The more than 400 volunteers and organizations included in the third honor roll represent volunteer efforts and community involvement in ensuring access to public library resources, coordinating food deliveries for nonprofit organizations, supporting survivors of sexual assault, maintaining public trails and natural areas, and empowering K-12 students, among other undertakings.
“The Serve Virginia Honor Roll offers an important opportunity to thank the outstanding volunteers who go above and beyond in their commitment to service, benefitting Virginia communities, said Kathy J. Spangler, Director of Serve Virginia. “Through the Virginia Community Engagement Index, we know that many active volunteers serve their communities multiple times per month, and our hope is that the Honor Roll celebrates these volunteers while also inspiring others to commit to volunteerism.”
In addition to the Honor Roll, Serve Virginia also recognizes Virginian volunteers through the Governor’s Volunteerism & Community Service Awards, which are currently open for community nominations through June 25. These awards spotlight individuals, groups, and businesses across the Commonwealth that are committed to service and community. Selected honorees will be recognized by the Governor. Nomination details are available at ServeVirginia.org/awards/governors-awards.
