Does your program work with students and youth? Do your members work in Virginia's schools or in out-of-school time programming? Don't miss this incredible opportunity to learn from Virginia's education leaders! The Virginia Office on Volunteerism and Community Services will host three day-long sessions across the state featuring workshops and activities to help your organizations increase your impact in our schools. Summit events will take place March 11th in Chester, March 15th in Danville, and March 16th in Fredericksburg.
Partnering with the Virginia Department of Education, the Education Summit will address the challenges National Service participants experience in and out of the classroom with children and youth. Most of the challenges stem from trauma-related factors which is often visible in the learning environment. Participants attending the summit will hear from subject-matter experts in mental health challenges in youth and effective approaches to in-classroom behaviors. In addition to trauma-informed approaches, some of the other workshop topics will include bullying, youth program development, and interactive sessions addressing the socio-behavioral needs of students. A host of dynamic speakers will share their expertise, including Monique Williams (MA Educator and Consultant of Beginnings Family Enrichment) to discuss trauma-informed care and Ronnie Sidney, MSW author of bestseller Nelson Beats the Odds.
