The Virginia Capacity Building Project is an AmeriCorps VISTA program dedicated to improving the social services landscape across the Commonwealth, with the ultimate goal of combatting poverty and ensuring healthy futures for those we serve. Based out of the Virginia Department of Social Services (VDSS), we are placing fifteen (15) full-time national service members with six (6) offices and projects at VDSS. Our team will be addressing a wide variety of topics, including, but not limited to: expanding access to affordable childcare; providing resources to address substance use disorder; putting immigrants in touch with services tailored to their needs; and furthering the goals of food security and good nutrition for all.
Positions are open through the following VDSS offices/initiatives:
Substance Abuse Initiative
Office of Innovation and Strategic Initiatives
Office of New Americans
Office of Volunteerism and Community Services
AmeriCorps VISTA positions are a great opportunity for recent graduates looking to gain experience in their chosen field, current professionals looking for a doorway to a career change, or anyone looking to enter or re-enter the workforce. In addition to the living stipend, AmeriCorps VISTA members receive healthcare and childcare benefits, professional development opportunities, and a relocation allowance where applicable. Upon successfully completing their year of service, members can choose to receive either a Segal Education Award or an End-Of-Service Cash Stipend, and are eligible for one year of Non-Competitive Eligibility for jobs with the federal government.
