As Central Virginia’s core hunger relief organization and a member of the Virginia Volunteerism Network, Feed More is where neighbors come together to uplift the soul of their community. Feed More’s service area covers 29 countries and 5 cities in Central Virginia, stretching from the Northern Neck, west to Louisa, and down to the North Carolina border.
Feed More’s comprehensive programs and network of more than 400 distribution partners help ensure neighbors have access to healthy meals – because they believe that no one should go hungry and that thriving communities start with full plates. In 2024, Feed More distributed nearly 40 million pounds of food to more than 400 distribution partners, prepared 750,000 made-from-scratch meals in the Bayard Community Kitchen, and fielded 2.3 million neighbor visits to partner food pantries throughout Central Virginia.
Five days a week, more than 200 volunteers donate their time and energy to serve the needs of their neighbors struggling with hunger. From slicing and chopping ingredients for the 15,000 meals prepared each week in the Bayard Community Kitchen, to delivering Meals on Wheels to up to 2,000 homebound neighbors daily, these everyday heroes ensure that neighbors in need are fed.
However, episodic food insecurity is on the rise in Central Virginia. In fact, over the past three years, Feed More has seen a 22% increase in need, and is back to pandemic-level high requests for assistance. To help meet this growing need, Feed More moved to a new facility in Henrico County in October 2024, enabling them to grow. The new facility provides warehousing space to hold almost 25 million more pounds of food, supporting their production capacity to scale up with the needs of the community.
