2024 Governor's Volunteerism & Community Service Award honorees Michelle Smeltzer and Nichole Johns serve the community of Warren County, Virginia, through a variety of volunteer organizations. They are committed to working for the betterment of the community, volunteering together at community organizations such as the Warren Coalition, Concern Hotline, Dinner Together, House of Hope, and Reaching Out Now. Jayeesh Chennupati is an AmeriCorps VISTA member serving at United Way of the Virginia Peninsula (UWVP) through a capacity-building project managed by Serve Virginia. In college, Jayeesh already knew about national service as a way to make an impact thanks to his interest in Peace Corps service. After graduation, however, he sought out AmeriCorps as a way to cultivate new skills and gain a better understanding of the world. Since 2001, CVP Windows and Doors has gone above and beyond in addressing Virginia’s critical need for affordable housing. Partnering with Habitat for Humanity Peninsula and Greater Williamsburg since 2021, CVP Windows and Doors has donated and installed windows, exterior doors, and patio sliders for over 20 homes. By contributing both materials and skilled labor, CVP Windows and Doors significantly reduces construction costs, enabling more families to achieve the stability, independence, and generational opportunity that homeownership provides.
