Kathy Rohacek is a member of the Spinners & Weavers Guild at the Northern Neck Heritage Arts Center, located inside the nonprofit historic landmark known as Rice’s Hotel / Hughlett’s Tavern in Heathsville. The guild’s wares are sold in the gift shoppe and all proceeds benefit the upkeep of the 300-year-old Tavern building.
When Kathy first moved to the Northern Neck, she joined the guild as a volunteer because of her love of weaving. But Kathy does so much more.
“When I see a need, and no one has stepped forward, I think… well, I could do that,” she explains.
She handles the registrations for the center’s heritage arts classes. She spearheaded updates to the center’s new website. She serves as a member of the Board of Directors that oversees the organization. In a pinch, she has even helped at the counter of the Tavern Cafe and been a shopkeeper for the gift shoppe.
“I want the Heritage Arts Center to succeed, so I put my talents where my heart is,” Kathy says.
The Northern Neck Heritage Arts Center (formerly known as Rice’s Hotel / Hughlett’s Tavern) is located at 73 Monument Place in Heathsville, Virginia. The center is the home to four artisan guilds (Blacksmiths, Quilters, Woodworkers, and Spinners & Weavers), plus a gift shoppe that sells the handcrafted wares of over 100 local artists and artisans, and the Tavern Cafe that sells light luncheon fare. The Northern Neck Heritage Arts Center is also the sponsor of the Heathsville Farmers Market.
Run entirely by volunteers, the Northern Neck Heritage Arts Center is lucky to have Kathy Rohacek as a volunteer. The center offers a place to explore creativity through the heritage arts while spending time with like-minded individuals. The center has become an important part of the community, and it’s a great place to volunteer!
