Congratulations to Doug Mueller, one of the many dedicated Virginia volunteers who was nominated for the 2023 Serve Virginia Honor Roll, which spotlights the volunteers that serve their communities in a variety of ways, promoting quality of life and creating a lasting impact for others across the Commonwealth! In the past two years the Northumberland County Lions Club has served over 16,000 people, provided over 4,000 hours of service to the community, and has donated over $20,000. Lions provide support across Northumberland County, supporting Little League teams, after-Prom parties, Junior Beta Club activities, disaster relief, high school scholarships, music competitions, blood drives, art competitions, shelters, food banks, and food pantries. 2024 Governor's Volunteerism & Community Service Award honoree the ODU Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship is an entrepreneurial accelerator dedicated to providing economic development to veterans and underserved or disadvantaged individuals. Through its collective programs in the past year, the Institute provided 4,055 thirty-minute counseling sessions, created 498 new entrepreneurs, established 54 startup businesses, enabled 76 contracts totaling $13 million, and created 498 new jobs.  Despite a significant military footprint, Hampton Roads experiences significant challenges in social mobility and financial wellbeing. C'erra Rhodes is a first-year Virginia Collage Advising Corps adviser at Madison County High School, having graduated from Radford University in 2023. She attended Charlottesville High School, where a VCAC college adviser supported her with her own college application process. “I was served by VCAC advisers throughout my junior and senior high school years," recalls C’erra. “I wanted to serve as a VCAC adviser because I remember the challenges I faced during the college application process as a first-generation student.
