As an honoree on the January 2024 Serve Virginia Honor Roll, Cristo Rey Richmond High School is a Catholic learning community that educates young people of limited economic means to become men and women of faith, purpose, and service. By providing students with college preparatory education, integrated corporate work study experience, and a commitment to volunteerism and service, Cristo Rey Richmond seeks to “Transform Richmond One Student at a Time.”
Cristo Rey Richmond’s vision is centered on strengthening the competence, confidence, and aspiration of students while empowering them to build fulfilling lives that advance the common good. Students come from the city of Richmond, as well as neighboring area counties and Petersburg, to experience a rigorous college preparatory curriculum, integrated with a relevant, professional work study experience. Upon graduation, students have developed the skills they need to be ready to succeed in college and in life.
Cristo Rey Richmond prides itself for being a family-centered school and plays an active role in the local community by encouraging students to live out the school’s mission. Through its outreach, Cristo Rey Richmond establishes itself as an active participant in the surrounding community and shares programs, resources, and facilities. Additionally, students use their talents to volunteer and serve: at their former elementary or middle schools, churches, food banks, making care kits and cards for sick children, offering peer tutoring at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, assisting with after school programs through Richmond Parks & Recreation, non-profit community events, summer camps, and much more.
