Evelyn Freeman, Peninsula Foster Grandparent Program Senior Corps – Foster Grandparent of the Year - Foster Grandparents are role models, mentors, and friends to children with exceptional needs.  At 91 years of age, Ms. Freeman has been serving for 14 years as a Foster Grandparent volunteer at the Discovery STEM Academy. Over the years of service with the program, she has watched many of her elementary students go on to graduate from high school and earn college degrees. Congratulations to Codefy of McLean - winner of the 2021 Governor's Volunteerism and Community Service Award for Outstanding Education Organization! The vast majority of computer programmers across the globe are male. Seeing a lack of computer programming courses in their own school, one determined group of female students in Northern Virginia decided to work to change that statistic in their own community. Denise Carl, Richmond Area Healthy Futures Opioid Project AmeriCorps State Member of the Year (Robert E. Wone Award for Exemplary Service) - The Wone Award was established in memory of Robert E. Wone, who served on the Governor’s Advisory Board on Service and Volunteerism from 2002-2006 and dedicated his life to volunteering for charitable organizations and offering pro bono legal service. Clifford Yee is a member and former chair of the Governor’s Advisory Board on Service and Volunteerism as well as the treasurer and former chair of the Virginia Service Foundation. He reflects, "I began serving on the Governor’s Advisory Board on Service and Volunteerism in 2020 to deepen my commitment to civic engagement, eventually having the honor of chairing the Board from 2022-2024. Matt Mooneyham found out about AmeriCorps VISTA from a conversation with his father, who shared that one of his coworker's sons did AmeriCorps after college and really enjoyed it. He recalls, "I decided to serve because I have always really enjoyed serving people, I also thought it would be a good opportunity to develop myself personally and professionally."
