The Commonwealth’s leading event for organizations and individuals making a difference in their communities, the 2024 Virginia Volunteerism Summit is your chance to learn from experts in the service and volunteerism sector. This year, we are thrilled to present two keynote speakers who will share their insights and experience in May:

Breauna Dorelus is the founder and Chief Cause Consultant at Connecting the Cause, a consultancy dedicated to dismantling harmful volunteer practices implemented by organizations and volunteers specifically towards Black communities. She started her career as an AmeriCorps member and spent 10+ years in various volunteer management roles in humanitarian aid efforts, refugee resettlement and ministry. Breauna believes in community inclusion in all aspects of the volunteer process, and has dedicated her work to ensuring that service is centered around co-dreaming and not harmful charity.

Sue Carter Kahl has dedicated her professional life to working and volunteering within the nonprofit sector. She now uses this experience and expertise as an evaluator, writer, facilitator, and trainer for national, state, and local clients. A nationally-recognized expert on volunteer engagement, Sue has presented or facilitated sessions at the National Conference on Volunteering and Service, the White House Conference on Faith-Based and Community Initiatives, and more. She has a PhD in Leadership from the University of San Diego as well as a Master’s in Social Work Administration and a Certificate in Nonprofit Management.

About the 2024 Virginia Volunteerism Summit: Each year, the Virginia Volunteerism Summit brings together hundreds of dedicated people to inspire and equip organizations and individuals to make a significant impact through service in and to their communities. Taking place virtually, the 2024 Summit will empower stakeholders through powerful conversations and workshops to re-energize our shared passion for service.

Participants will hear from thought-provoking, nationally-known speakers about the impact and future of volunteerism, and also collaboratively engage in workshops to learn best practices, co-create new ideas, and engage in spreading passion and inspiration throughout the sector.
