In honor of National Volunteer Week, we're spotlighting individuals and groups whose support of volunteerism and service make significant impacts across Virginia. A critical aspect of volunteerism in the Commonwealth can be found in the Virginia Volunteer Center Network, with hubs located throughout the state to assist in building volunteer capacity in nonprofits and helping individuals and groups find service opportunities that interest them. The Volunteer Center Network boasts twenty organizations serving diverse communities and regions, and we invite you to get to know the Volunteer Center covering the Central Region of the state, the Community Foundation for a greater Richmond.
A philanthropic organization with more than 50 years of experience, the Community Foundation for a greater Richmond is committed to realizing a vibrant Richmond region, where all individuals and families can thrive and prosper. They provide grants, educational opportunities, volunteer matching, charitable giving advisory services and other support to equip and empower an ever-growing network of changemakers in our region. They welcome collaboration—from donors, from nonprofits, and from community groups—to bring about a reimagined, resilient community that provides equitable opportunities for everyone.
Each year, nonprofits across the Richmond region leverage the Community Foundation's Engagement Center to organize their projects and source support from volunteers. The Community Foundation also leads projects for national days of service, and recently coordinated volunteers to complete a mural at HomeAgain, created in partnership with artist Hamilton Glass for the Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service in January.
This year, the Community Foundation is celebrating Global Volunteer Month in April by providing 17 partner organizations with the resources, space, and time to write appreciation postcards to their volunteers, and mailing them on their behalf with the goal of reiterating best practices of volunteer management by making it easy for organizations to show their appreciation with handwritten, personalized notes. It's their hope that the volunteers who receive these notes will feel valued and that their efforts are recognized and appreciated.
